handbook

By J. Moulder et al. (1992, 1995).

ISBN: 0-9627026-2-5

This is a reference book of standard spectra for identification and interpretation of XPS data. It contains spectra from almost all the naturally occurring elements. Spectra from a given element are plotted on two facing-pages, with the spectrum on the left-hand page being obtained with a monochromatic Al source, and that on the right-hand page being from a Mg source. High energy resolution spectra of a main transition are also shown as insets, the main peak energies (including the main Auger energies), and a plot of some chemical effects.

The book also contains many Auger parameter plots, chemical state tables and references, sensitivity factors for two source angles, peak energies for Al and Mg X-rays, and peak energies in numerical order.

The 1995 version of the handbook is a reprint of the 1992 version with a few minor modifications.

By K.D. Childs et al. (1995).

ISBN: 0-9648124-0-1

This is the 3rd edition of this reference book and contains many updates and several additional elements. The reference spectra were obtained using a cylindrical mirror analyzer (CMA) with an electron beam energy of 10 keV. There are 2 to 4 pages devoted to each element. Spectra were taken in the direct mode and numerically differentiated using a 5-point Sovitsky-Golay filter. Both derivative and direct spectra are plotted. Scale factors are included for each spectrum.

The book also contains a comparison of derivate spectra using 3, 5 and 10 keV incident beam energies. A table of possible elements detected as a function of measured kinetic energy is also included, as are tables and plots of Auger sensitivity factors.
