The 2017 courses are now finished. I will be teaching my 3-day course on XPS/ESCA and Data Processing and a 2-day hands-on course on CasaXPS processing software in Tampa, 26 February – 2 March 2018. Click here for details about the 2018 courses.

This five-day set of short courses will be devoted to Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS/ESCA) and the processing of their spectra.

The first 2 days will be on Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) and Data processing. It will cover in detail the principles of AES, instrumentation, imaging, qualitative and quantitative analysis, artifacts in spectra, and depth profiling (see the course description).

The last 3 days will be on X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS/ESCA) including Data Processing. It will cover in detail the principles of XPS, instrumentation, imaging, qualitative and quantitative analysis, artifacts in spectra, and depth profiling (see the course description). Examples of Data Processing will be given throughout the course and will illustrate processing with many different software programs, including PHI Multipak, Service Physics ESCA 2007, QUASES Tougaard, and CasaXPS. This 3 day course is not designed to teach users how to use these software programs, but to illustrate their applications to various aspects of processing XPS/ESCA data.

These courses are designed for scientists, engineers, technicians, and students, who would like a detailed understanding of the principles and uses of AES and XPS/ESCA, and Data Processing for surface analysis and depth profiling. The two courses can be taken as a 5-day package or individually.

Instructor
The courses are being taught by John T. Grant, who has over 40 years experience in surface analysis, and who has been teaching such courses for many years. He had been a Distinguished Research Scientist at the University of Dayton for over 30 years. He is now a consultant in surface science. He is co-editor of the book: Surface Analysis by Auger and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy.

Location
The short courses will be held in the Dolphin Room at the Sailport Waterfront Suites on Tampa Bay, 2506 North Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 USA. There is a special room rate for attendees of $149.00 (plus 12% tax). The hotel offers free transportation from and to Tampa International Airport (TPA), free internet for guests, and free self-parking. Telephone the hotel at 813-342-3100 and mention the group rate for “SAM17” to receive this special room rate. There are a limited number of rooms at this rate, and reservations also must be made before 6 January 2017 as any unused rooms will be released to the hotel on this date. The hotel will honor this rate after 6 January if rooms are available. This rate is also available up to three days before and/or after the courses with advanced reservations. Check-in time is usually 4pm and check-out time is usually noon. The hotel also offers free shuttle service to restaurants on Rocky Point, such as the Rusty Pelican, Bahama Breeze, Whiskey Joe’s, and Oyster Catchers. The rooms have full kitchens, a sitting area, and private balconies. There is a heated pool, a sandy area, a deck area, a fishing pier, and an outdoor fitness center.

The hotel is less than 5 miles from Tampa International Airport (TPA), and 14 miles (via Route 60) or 15 miles (via I-275) from St.Pete – Clearwater International Airport (PIE) which is served by the discount carrier Allegiant Air. There is a free hotel shuttle from and to TPA, but not from or to PIE. Rental cars, taxis, shuttles (Super Shuttle), and ride sharing services are available at PIE.

Short Course Tuition
Tuition covers all instruction, a hard copy of all the presentation material, refreshments and lunch. The courses will run from 9.00am until 5.00pm each day, with appropriate breaks.
